AquaArmor coating is 'Environment Friendly'

Although basically a simple process, AquaArmor requires stringent attention to technical chemistry process controls. AquaArmor operations maintain constant quality control procedures based on extensive research to ensure that all coated parts meet specifications.

AquaArmor eliminates many of the traditional chemical rinses and surface treatments, and instead 'Autodeposits' barrier coatings without high voltage, rinses, or the heavy metals involved in traditional zinc plating. The coatings contain no hazardous, volatile organics and generate no hazardous waste or sludge.

AquaArmor coatings can be applied on clean ferrous steels, zinc-phosphated steels, or cast iron, for improved protection against oxidation and environmental attack.

Protecting parts from environmental corrosion used to be complicated, typically involving special, very 'Environmentally Unfriendly' processes of chemical rinses, surface treatments and preparing metal surfaces. AquaArmor changes all that.

The AquaArmor process is 'Environment Friendly, Clean' and may be a one or two-part process, depending on the application.

One Part Process:

Primarily used for rubber-to-metal applications, a one-part metal treatment can be applied to clean, unphosphatized steel. This coating replaces both zinc phosphating and rubber-to-metal primers, and provides a surface bondable for rubber adhesives in addition to moderate corrosion protection for exposed surfaces. The resulting AquaArmor coating serves two purposes by acting as a primer for 'Rubber to Metal' bonding and protecting exposed areas of bonded and nonbonded parts.

The coating is flexible and can resist cracking during aggressive swaging operations common in many manufacturing operations.

Two Part Process:

This process is a 2-coat, no-rinse, low gloss system that is flexible, heat resistant, UV resistant, and can be used where enclosed ductile iron, grey iron, Cold Rolled Steel (CRS), Hot Rolled Steel (HRS), Iron Phosphate, or Zinc Phosphate coated metal surfaces must be protected against corrosion. Since this is an immersion process, coatings can be successfully applied to small and large parts, or complex parts to provide complete coverings.

Drawing compounds, shop soils, rust, and heavy scale, are removed prior to coating to prevent affecting the subsequent coating quality. Parts are treated after all machining, stamping or perforating operations have been completed. Treatment is carried out using multi-step combination blasting, immersion, drying and baking units. The number of cleaning and rinsing stages utilized will depend upon the degree of cleanliness of the parts and the freedom from rust.

An aqueous solution containing the AquaArmor coating reacts with steel surfaces to form a soft gel on all surfaces. This gel deposition is driven by diffusion of iron ions at the part surface and diffusion slows as a film builds which in turn allows control of coating thickness.
